My Stone Stories
In the Bible, an incident is recorded where Joshua and the whole nation of Israel crossed the Jordan river, during the harvest season. I don't know much about the Jordan River, and what it is like at harvest, but the Bible states that at that time, the river was at flood stage during harvest.
Long story, short: the guys carrying the ark of the covenant (God's presence) stepped into the water when it was still at flood stage and the water heaped up on a pile. The flow of the river was cut off.
They stood in the center of the dry river bed, with the ark of the covenant, while the whole nation of Israel crossed over on dry ground.
When everyone was safely across, Joshua told twelve men to pick up twelve stones from the center of the dry river bed and bring them over to the side they crossed to. Joshua then set them up as a memorial to remember the miracle that occurred that day.
He told them, "In the future when your children ask you, "What do these stones mean?", tell them. Tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. "
He is saying: Remember! Don't forget what God has done! Tell your children.
I have seen God move in my life. He is still living an active. I realize that it is so easy to forget the stories of God's provision for us and his work in our lives. Not only is it easy to forget, it is easy to minimize exactly how incredible those stories really are.
I have determined that I need to tell my Stone Stories to my children. What about you? Your own, "It's-no-big-deal stories and your "Why would anyone want to hear about MY stories?" may actually be a big faith-building deal for someone else. We have to realize that these aren't just OUR stories! These are GOD'S stories! He wrote them through our lives. Please share them with your children or those who are close to you.
I don't know what this will look like but I invite you to join me as I reflect on my life and on the faithfulness of God to me and to my family.
