Chocolate Chip Bars

Ingredients
Wendy and Wanda making chocolate chip cookies
1 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs

2 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 - 12 ounce bag chocolate chips

What you will do:
In a mixing bowl, cream together butter, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla. Add eggs and mix well.
Next, add flour, baking soda and salt. Mix well. Gently fold in chocolate chips.
Spread mixture into a 9 x 13" pan.

Bake at 375 degrees for 12-15 minutes.

To test if it is done baking, insert a knife into the center.
If the knife comes out clean, without dough sticking to the knife, it is ready to remove from the oven. If dough sticks to the knife, bake a few more minutes.

When finished baking, it should be golden brown. The center will rise when baking, but will settle as it cools - this is normal!  Allow to cool before cutting. You may need to adjust your baking time based on how your oven bakes and how your family prefers their cookies.
If they get too crispy for your preference, they can always be salvaged by dipping in milk!

My sister and I made these cookie bars so many times when we were at home, that I memorized the recipe. I don't make them too much anymore, but when I am looking for a treat, this would be at the top of my list of recipes to pull out.
